LLB Law

Thank you again for choosing to support me throughout university and I hope you both are well. Your donation has enabled me to focus solely on the second year of my studies, ensuring that I can get the best grade possible. My career aspirations of becoming a practicing Solicitor after university have not changed, meaning that getting a high grade in second year is more important than ever.

My modules for this year are quite varied, I have taken; Equity and Trusts, Land Law, the Law of Torts, EU Law and the Law on Freedom of Expression. This year my modules have been just as challenging as first year, however I am enjoying studying more of a variation of topics. Since I was last in contact, I have sat another set of exams in January and have handed in some summative assignments. Currently, my grades in each of my modules are at a strong 2:1, meaning that I’m still on track to achieve a high 2:1 after I sit my exams in May.

Unfortunately, I was unable to secure a vacation scheme for this summer, however I am still being active in focusing on building key skills to improve my CV and employ-ability. I have attended some seminars this year which specifically focus on building my skill sets in areas such as leadership, team working, and how to be successful in situations such as assessment centers or in an interview.

Despite not being able to get a vacation scheme, I am still aiming to complete some placements over the summer to gain valuable experience, this is only possible thanks to your support as I would be unable to undertake placements without it as I would have had to take paid work all summer instead. Currently, I am in the process of sending emails and applications to some of my local firms to see if they are willing to give me a placement over the summer period. I am aiming to get several placements over the break which all specialize in different areas of law to allow me to see what sector I would like to work in after completing my degree.

Once again, thank you so much for your continued financial support throughout my time at university. Not only has it allowed me to solely focus on my degree as I don’t need to balance my studies alongside paid work, but it has also meant that simple purchases such as textbooks are something which I don’t have to save for. Your support has also enabled me to join societies again this year, such as the Howard League for Penal Reform and the University of Exeter Law Society, which have complimented my studies and I have enjoyed participating in.

I look forward to contacting you with a full report at the end of the academic year.

With best wishes, Sophie
