Profile - Lucy Wakley

Why did you choose to come to Exeter?

I participated in the Exeter Scholars programme and through this undertook the Biosciences activity strand. Through this I was able to come to the campus a few times during the year that I was considering and applying to Universities. Exeter's Penryn campus made me feel very comfortable and it was somewhere I could imagine myself studying.

Why have you chosen your subject of study?

I have had an interest in the ocean and marine biology for a long time and I thought this course would be perfect for me as I can really see myself pursuing this as a career. I also think that the course will be very challenging and rewarding and am excited to continue with it.

What career aspirations do you have?

I hope to work in the marine biology field, maybe focusing on coral or a solution to the massive plastic problem that we are currently in.

What will you be doing outside of study?

I have already joined the gym as I am very keen on exercise. I have also joined the University's Surf Club as well as EcoSoc and Marine Watch Society, which will compliment my studies and enhance my skill set.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and how will it impact on your time at Exeter and beyond?

This award means a lot as it will have a massive impact on my university time, I plan to use this money to pay for any field trips that I have and any additional costs that might come with the course.
