Profile - Liam Preston

Why did you choose to come to Exeter?

I am a local student who has grown up in Exeter. The University is fantastic and to have a research community like Exeter's Classics and Ancient Department on my doorstep made it the perfect place to continue my studies.

Why have you chosen your subject of study?

Classics and Ancient History is a subject that I fell in love with from the moment I first studied it. My focus is on the culture and the literature and it always amazes me that ideas from thousands of years ago can still be so relevant today.

What career aspirations do you have?

I would like to continue into academia when I have finished my research, whether this is in a postdoctoral research position or a full-time teaching position at an institution.

What will you be doing outside of study?

I am a huge film fan and so the campus cinema appeals to me as well as being involved in some Classics Society events. I am also passionate about fitness and I take part in fitness activities throughout the year.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and how will it impact on your time at Exeter and beyond?

It means such a great deal to me. To be able to focus all of my attention onto my research will be of huge benefit to my studies. It will enable me to fully engross myself in the research community, as well as the wider social community and it will help to provide a great base for my time at Exeter and beyond this.
