Profile - Chris Power

Why did you choose to come to Exeter?

I came to the University of Exeter for three reasons. First, I wanted to spend my exchange semester in the UK because English is the primary language and it is a country with significant influence globally. Second, the university's strong entrepreneurial reputation aligned with my career goals. I was excited to learn about the different entrepreneurial practices UK entrepreneurs are applying to their work today. Finally, the small town of Exeter meant almost all the students lived on or around campus. This creates an excellent environment where students take part in the 300 plus societies and it is easy to meet other domestic and international students.

Why have you chosen your subject of study?

I chose business because of the impact businesses have worldwide. Having a fundamental understanding of business is crucial for someone who wants to impact the world.

What career aspirations do you have?

My career goal is to maximize my impact on people across the world. Whether I reach that goal operating within a large organization or creating my own company, I want to be able to say I've positively influenced the lives of millions of people.

What will you be doing outside of study?

I am involved in tennis, rifle, business & finance, Scandinavian, commercial awareness, and entrepreneurs society. I also am still active with my two professional clubs at my home university.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and how will it impact on your time at Exeter and beyond?

The scholarship gave me the opportunity to join many different societies, and it has greatly enhanced my education experience. Joining these societies has helped me build connections and learn about different cultures that will help me operate across borders in my professional business career.
